The same happend with season 4 and 5 aswell, Dexter fucked up in the end of season 4, he got seen in the police station with the trinity killer but apparently nobody remembered that at all in season 5. But in the end of the day the chose to have Lila kill Doakes and Dexter didn't have to make a difficult decision, and season 3 could continue like nothing ever happend in the end of season 2.

I hated that Lila killed Doakes in the end of season two, the end of season two was so well done, with Dexters inner conflict about breaking the code to save himself by killing Doakes, or turning himself in to the police. But even in these seasons there is something off. I think season 1 and 2 are the two best seasons, followed by season 4. It's like the writers just had a reset button after every season and just chose to ignore major events that happend the seasons before and continue like normal. It almost felt like actions didn't have consequences in Dexter, especially in the later seasons. I just would like to tell you my opinion on what went wrong with Dexter. But I, as many other people was very disappointed about the whole ending, and not just the ending.
